Electrolytes and Hydration

by Jessica Scollo

What are Electrolytes?

Electrolytes are minerals (including calcium, chloride, magnesium, potassium, and sodium ions) found in your body that help to regulate fluid and prevent dehydration by being in charge of moving water and nutrients to where your body needs them.  They also help with blood sugar and pressure regulation, move nutrients into our cells and more.  We naturally lose electrolytes daily through sweat and natural excretion of them through the body so it's important that they get replenished to ensure proper hydration, whether that be through our diet or supplementation.
